BOKO: The only connecting road between Boko and Lumpi has been totally closed due to the landslide after the heavy rainfall since last Tuesday at Compaduli area (some 12 kilometres from Boko town) under Boko Revenue Circle.

Lumpi area falls along the Assam-Meghalaya border in Assam's Kamrup district under Boko Assembly Constituency. In the Lumpi area, more than 2,000 people live in many villages i.e. Lower Lumpi, Rani, Makoibari, Harshanagar, Umali, Upper Lumpi, Nowapara, Dronpara and many other villages.

Biju Chetry from Lower Lumpi village said that the road is their lifeline. As the Lumpi area has no proper hospital services, they have to go to Boko or Guwahati for medical treatment and health check-up. For buying essential commodities also people of the area have to go to Boko, which is 31 kilometres from Lumpi. From Wednesday morning, people of the Lumpi area were stranded in the Compaduli area with their vehicles.

Boko Circle Officer Dibash Bordoloi said that on Wednesday morning he came to know about the incident and soon after he informed the PWD authority. PWD workers and excavators were deployed to clear the road. People alleged that they were facing this situation now due to the negligence of the Public Works Department (PWD) while constructing the road.
